I was just talking about Ayn Rand the night before. She’s coming up a lot lately in casual conversations. I’ve been meaning to go to Exercise for at least a month. They have also been coming up a lot in conversations lately. They have been around for as long as me. It turns out I have already been to Exercise, but knew it as something else. I don’t remember the stairs in the ceiling, but then I came from the other direction.
Nicole answers the bell. She and Vanessa run the place. They also ran another place. They don’t have plans to make this into a forever place. The energy of art making needs to go back into art making. Let’s not make this about altruism or objectivism. Isms are too definitive. Temporality is on the rise.
The show currently up is Nine Paintings of Ayn Rand. I haven’t read her in years, but I should try to see the movie. Or just come see these shows. I am asked if I know Rebecca Brewer. I don’t. But I know who Ayn Rand is. I like The Luddite. RBC Painting winners have five years to prove themselves. That reminds me, I totally missed Etienne Zack’s opening at Equinox. I was too busy talking about Ayn Rand.
